With a musical career spanning more than fifty years, it’s no surprise that English blues musician John Mayall has made a long-lasting impression on the scene. His skills range from songwriter to singer, pianist to harmonica, and perhaps most notably, guitarist.
He founded John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in the 1960’s launching a slough of collaborations with illustrious blues and blues rock musicians. John Mayall and Eric Clapton jammed together in the mid-sixties, followed by Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Mark-Almond, Harvey Mandel, and so many more.
One of our favorite things about Mayall is his willingness to nurture, support, and shape other musicians – perhaps these characteristics are what made him known as “The Godfather of British Blues”.
As far as being a blues-guitar sideman, the Bluesbreakers gig is the pinnacle. That’s Mount Everest. You could play with B.B. King or Buddy Guy, but you’re just gonna play chords all night. This guy features you. You get to play solos. He yells your name after every song, brings you to the front of the stage, and lets you sing. He creates a place for you in the world.

Mayall was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2016 alongside Elvin Bishop, Eddy Clearwater, Jimmy Johnson, and The Memphis Jug Band.
We’re excited to announce that the John Mayall Tour 2018 will join the the Sisters Rhythm & Brews Festival in Sisters, Oregon, August 3 & 4. Get your tickets and see John Mayall live!
